117. The Lunch

Begrudgingly I accepted your offer of lunch
Although I had no real desire to attend
Since we hadn’t met before, I didn’t care to eat
Nor to waste the two hours I would need to spend
But I was a good sport and met you on time
And the restaurant you picked really was quite charming
Needless to say when I went to the table
My first vision of you was quite disarming
I had expected a frumpy old maid unkempt and uncouth
Who badgered and cajoled clients into submission
Instead I was greeted by a most wondrous sight
And I soon congratulated myself on my lunchtime decision
I came to do business but it passed so fast
That we scarcely had the time to eat
Before we knew it four hours had elapsed
And soon we ended up talking on the street
I was enchanted by your beautiful eyes
A prisoner to the way you smiled and spoke
If I were but ice I would have melted in your hand
Or as a thermometer I would surely have broke
When last we did part and go our separate ways
The ending of our meeting much overdue
I thanked the heavens for my lucky break
Be assured I will always accept a lunch with you
