Had I But Known Had I but known That chocolate would make you fat I would have hidden all the goodies And other such things like that Had I but known That roses made you sneeze I would have lost the florist’s number And bought you full grown trees Had I but known That burgundy was not the perfect shade I would have picked something different To prevent your little tirade Had I but known That you hated all my jokes I would have been more serious When in the company of your folks Had I but known That you did not like my shoes I would have gladly gone barefoot Or permitted you to choose Had I but known That you didn’t really care I would have saved all my energy For someone with fairer hair Had I but known That you would leave my side I would have never asked you To be my wife and bride |
