| 149. The Announcement The announcement has been made The company has been acquired The brains that had made our success Would no longer be inspired The thought of riches for the few Did not sit well in our hearts The executives would line their purses The employees would be given fresh starts No words were directly spoken But things you always really know That the hatchet man would be coming There was only one place we would go We laughed and giggled about the good How destiny had been played before our eyes In private we would lament our fears And allow the quiet to silence our sighs For many years we have given our all And worked both early and late But come the morning of the next day Our futures would be left outside the gate |
