152. Doubt

Agony beset by emotion
Struggles to attain freedom
From the chains of unrequited love
Cast aside for another

The heart that beat so fast once
Now hibernates in a cave of blackness
Void of happiness or salvation
Guarding the shattered gates of innocence

Dreams that once presented promises
Are left scattered across a field of lies
Bereft of the excitement from which they grew
Forgiveness drifting into the emptiness of life

Alas a tiny reminder of guilt
Remains burrowed insides life’s temple
Gathering strength from all around
Soon to spread elation and happiness

Would things have been different
Had passion given way to logic
And God had intervened to deter
The very essence of his own creation

But who can now doubt
That the heavens have spawned goodness
From the entrails of what appeared evil
When a tiny heart begins to beat
