160. A Secret Place

There is a secret place within my heart
That is reserved for things or lovers I’ll never possess
It is a land of fantasies and dreams and things long forgotten
And of special thoughts that I’ll never confess

It is within such a place that your face does reside
Placed carefully amongst the finery and untold riches
It holds a position of great respect placed on the highest of walls
Revered as one of the most unscratchable itches

When your likeness first appeared there was great elation
That like others your placement would be of short stay
But as the days dragged on and the dust settled in
It became obvious that the brightness of hope had turned gray

Although some escape was provided through dreams
The coming of morning returned you to your hidden cell
Though things had transpired and created quite a stir
There was nobody else to whom I could tell

While there have been others who have come before
Who have entered and vanished into the black
Your appearance gave hope that dreams could come true
If only I had pursued you and not stood back

So here I now sit as you say your goodbyes
Leaving me without a chance to be your forever
But I’ll still smile when I remember your face
Knowing that in my dreams we’ll always be together
