163. To My Love

Can you believe how many years have gone by
Since the night when I first saw your face?
Where would we be if you had decided to keep plans
To go out and eat at some New York sushi place?

Who would have guessed that a question on names
Could produce a response that should not have been given?
Three days or was it nights that were but a flirting prize
For my attraction for you that I failed to keep hidden

You never knew that my heart nearly stopped
When your electronic mail arrived at my door
Like a young school boy with his first crush
I greedily devoured your words and yearned for more

When I heard your sweet voice at first upon the phone
You had already stolen my heart and gave me hope
You never guessed that you had saved me from myself
And freed me from a life that I could no longer cope

From the streets of Rosendale to late night Piccadilly Square
Never have I experienced romance of such true allure
I would have gladly given up everything that I possessed
That you are the love of my life I was never more sure

Despite the ups and downs that we have both endured
I’m glad that my mistakes and faults didn’t cast you aside
I give thanks to the heavens each day that I arise
That God has gifted me with you to be my bride

So as we now share this first Christmas as a couple
With Snickers and Kitty laying together by our tree
I hope that this small semblance of my love for you
Shows you how much you truly mean to me

For regardless of what I may ever write or say
Or the actions that I may take or fail to do
My life will never have a purpose or meaning
Unless I can have you by my side and share it with you
