179. A Hero

A hero died this very day
Yet no one cried or wept
She was not a celebrity
No entourage had she kept

Neither sports nor movie figurine
Nor famous person on TV
She had never met the President
Nor had she won some lottery

She was but a service woman
Who had served her country well
She left behind three little kids
No more nighttime stories would she tell

No headlines will proclaim her suffering
Nor will the media really care
The morning news will not report her death
Just another casualty over there

While her loss may not be as great
Or compare with those we hold in high regard
Shouldn’t we forgo worrying about celebrities
And think more about those who stand guard?

While she did not make the millions
Nor live in a world filled with luxury
Don’t you think she’d just appreciate
We cared that she died for you and me?
