186. A Friend

A friend arrived this very day
Someone whom I had all but forgotten
We’d lost contact for many a year
My memory returned while helping those down trodden
She was my anchor and my staff
Who helped me through all the bad
Yet when conditions changed for good
I left her without a word and feeling sad
For I had been like those I now help
Living daily with no hope or money
She had taken me in her arms
And assured me my future would be very sunny
For such assurance she did provide
Forgoing her very needs for my own
She became a pillar and a friend
Insuring that I did not face problems all alone
But when her words did come true
And my life became what I did plan
I quickly parted ways and left
Distancing myself from the old as I ran
Yet she found me in her travels
Seeking to assure me a friend she’d always be
For despite what I ever said or did
She’d always be there for me
