217. The Executive

How envious I am of all of you
Who work and stop and think
I just sit here wasting my time
Counting hours before I go home and drink
They say my job is very important
Money flows freely to my favorite bank
But all I do is read the newspaper
Since mundane work is below my rank
They call me a brilliant executive
Although I’m not quite sure what they mean
For I contribute even less than my employees
Even those who clean my latrine
My phone did ring this very day
A strange sound that awakened me from slumber
My boss called to congratulate my efforts
But surely he must have the wrong number
Needless to say a promotion will soon follow
Even less work will I next do
But I will never voice my objections
Because my mother didn’t raise no fool
