226. A Minstrel

Sing me a song
Sing me a song so sweet
Sing the way you used to
When we first met on the street
You were a minstrel
Singing for his dinner
I was taken by your voice
I couldn’t walk away
Your song gave me no choice
You were a minstrel
Your life was so simple
When you enchanted me
My knees nearly buckled
For my future was plain to see
You were a minstrel
I was a living success
You didn’t meet my goals
But your voice sold me
Bringing together two souls
You were a minstrel
Our marriage was just great
But I tried to mold you
And your songs began to sour
So after we soon followed too
You were a minstrel
I should have left you there
For I should have known
That song birds are free
Something that no one can own
You were a minstrel
And now you are again
I heard you singing yesterday
And it made me think about then
Sing me a song
Sing me a song so sweet
Sing the way you used to
When we first met on the street
