| 24. Had I Known Had I known that such enchantment and delight could exist Behind the perfumed veil of perfunctory professionalism I would have gladly slept through these many score years In simple tribute to Rip Van Wrinkle and all his witticism Had I known that a simple smile could mend my tattered heart And heal my soul, my mind, and bring forth excitement to my senses I would have forgone all my successes and my childhood dreams Just to catch a glimpse of your face through a photographer’s lenses Had I known that the way you walked and the tenderness of your eyes Could warm the hidden places of my life and entrance me like no other I would have embarked upon a journey long ago to search and to find Your presence in the past before you were discovered by another Had I known that the opportunities of my life would lead me down a path Cluttered with decisions beyond my grasp and things I never knew I would have endured a thousand times the misery and pain If only to tell the world in muttered silence how much I truly adore you |
