| 250. Valentine’s Day Although you said no gifts today Surely because of the cost or expense I decided to really overlook your request For what you asked just made no sense Valentine’s Day is a day of love and joy To celebrate what we have been given For me to overlook such a special day Is to forgo my belief in miracles and heaven So I write this poem just for you To the angel who graces my heart and soul I see our love as a newborn oak tree That I know we’ll nurture and grow While I may not get you fine chocolates Or some expensive jewelry or diamond rings I give you my feelings in my prose and words And thank you for the happiness your love brings For when most other gifts have broken Or our memory of them is long gone I hope that these words will make you smile Knowing that in my heart you’ll always belong So tonight we’ll toast just to us Two hearts who have melded into one Let us plan for a future of joy and happiness For our life together has just begun |
