253. Chivalry

What ever happened to chivalrous men
The ones who opened doors and stood?
Haven’t we taken equal rights too far
When gentlemen no longer act as they should?
Simple courtesies seem a thing of the past
As men ignore women, sad but true
Good manners I guess are no longer learned
For their usage seems the exception to the rule
Did the quest for equality kill an era
A time when men tilted hats and did smile?
No longer do you find a woman’s hand lifted
Or for a man to ask permission to sit for a while
Bar stools have replaced the couch
A father’s permission is no longer required
Men and women just cavort in the open
No pageantry for children soon sired
I would attest that life does go on
Past habits and practices cast astray
But don’t you ever think what life could be
If we returned to days of chivalry one day?
