285. Darkness Came

Darkness came a bit early one day
The sun was eclipsed by war
What we feared for years had come
Life would never be as before
The initial blast came from within
Intruders had awakened their brothers
Their patience paid off with the loss of one city
Followed immediately by the destruction of others
Our enemy existed mostly on paper
Hidden faces that masked their disdain
Despite our best attempts to track them down
It was for our destruction that they did train
Many of our allies did side with our foes
A religious war is what they did fear
Only was it when they felt the terror
Did they realize that their own demise was at hand
A thousand warriors had carried their God
Stuffed snuggly in radioactive canisters of war
It was nothing for them to die for their cause
For millions tomorrow never to come no more
So it was that our civilization did pass
Man’s accomplishments destroyed in a blast of light
For survivors it didn’t matter whose God was there
No one would ever know if it was wrong or right
