| 325. Believe Who could have believed the things we heard About how they treated prisoners and women Would we have known what they had done If a captive hadn’t escaped from the prison While some things do happen in fields of war And the days that follow killing and dying But to see we are no better then them There is no more room for excuses or lying We are the proud of a civilized state Who have waved our flag with great fanfare Now we find out that our soldiers are thugs Is it any wonder the world hates us out there The stars and stripes mean so much to us Those who work hard to do our best But to find out that evil resides among us Brings nothing but shame and humility to the rest While we have little power to put an end to this matter Take heart to know we can change those who lead For if retribution is not dealt harshly to the guilty We can elect honest men versus those who prefer greed |
