| 335. The Valley The flowers blossomed upon the field Such beauty wasted before men’s eyes Birds chirped happily in trees so green Oblivious to the maelstrom brewing in the skies Nature’s music came to an abrupt halt When the clanking of metal came near The approaching voices of conquering men Induced even the mighty bear to run in fear No more beauty would the valley see When explosions uprooted fauna and trees What had once been a scene of immense beauty Became splattered with man’s wars and disease Though nature’s sculptors took a millennium or more To grace mankind with both plant and animal Man’s armies need but a few moments to end it all No unspoiled valley safe until man’s wars do go |
