345. Broken Heart

I felt the pain so deep inside
My heart was near to bursting
I’d searched so long to find her
For her affection I’d been thirsting
So close by yet so far away she was
A phantom to those who do see
If only I had done something different
She might have stayed with me
My words had wounded her fragile soul
I’d taken pleasure in stabbing deep
But to have the ability to take back what I said
Would have given me pause to sleep
Yet love does have a weakened shell
Never meant to protect us from pain
For it bares us for others to see
Protecting us not from actions we should restrain
No matter how great or smart we are
We sometimes fail to appreciate what we found
To often we give in to greed and avarice
A broken heart never makes a sound
