399. The Alarm

Raise the alarm
The scout did shout
The enemy has come today

Close your windows
Save your children
For war is coming our way

Swords were rattled
Horses stood ready
Soldiers prepared for war

Citizens huddled
Praying for salvation
Fearful of blood and gore

The enemy approached
Cannons firing
Defenses crushed asunder

Bravery died
Along with hope
A general’s unforgivable blunder

The white flag flew
Surrender had come
The leaders fled away

Silence the alarm
The enemy is dead
A city taken this day
