| 401. The Broken Tooth A broken tooth lay upon the floor A reminder of what had transpired The prisoner hadn’t said a word Nor given up on who he had conspired Though beaten and tortured much His body broken into a bloody mess The prisoner refused to give in to them No amount of torture could make him confess He thought he had won or made them stop But they told him they had a surprise There wasn’t much more they could do to him Until he saw his family standing before his eyes To choose between them or his country Was a situation for which he never had a plan Sacrifice took on a much different meaning When his son would never live to be a man So without remorse he did give in For his country meant nothing without them all But he should have realized nothing would matter When they were lined up and shot against a wall They cast him into the streets to die A failure to his country and his own family He’d endured pain and suffering for nothing For in the end things just have to be Take heed all you warriors with your state’s secrets Know that in time such things fade away What would you do to save your family If given the choice one day |
