408. The Letter

The letter fell off my lips
Accompanied by another few
They joined together in combination
Creating the first word that I knew
Da Da was what I said
My parents were quite amazed
As I added Ma Ma next
For my performance I was soon praised
The words continued coming
They spilled forth in great amount
As the months flew by and went
My parents quite soon lost count
What had caused so much joy
Soon became a major pain
For as the years did pass along
My parent’s happiness turned to disdain
They couldn’t stop my stream of words
Threatening discipline to stem the flow
No matter what the subject or matter
I was happy to let them know
Now that time has past and I’m a Dad
I cringe when I hear the baby chatter
For I know what will surely come in the future
But who cares, it really doesn’t matter
