| 424. Gay I used to despise the others out there The ones who prefer their own I couldn’t contemplate how they chose Thinking they should remain alone To distort the word gay was insulting to all Turning happiness into a queer thing It wasn’t until later that I did learn That love isn’t defined by a wedding ring Tolerance isn’t really what I acquired For my prejudice was tainted by others I came to understand we’re really the same Such a diverse group of sisters and brothers For sex defines not who you are It is simply a fact of being alive We all deserve to have joy and happiness From our true selves never having to hide |
