442. Out To Sea

I alone took the blame
Our efforts had been a failure
I should have joined the Army
Instead of serving as a sailor
For two straight months we sailed at sea
Our mission to search and destroy
But it was really us who was hunted
So obvious to even the cabin boy
The crew tried to speak their fear
Yet I wouldn’t hear their reason
I was convinced that we would succeed
To think otherwise was considered treason
Needless to say we fell to surprise
The enemy had laid a deadly trap
The caught us sitting at anchor
With half my crew resting or taking a nap
In minutes they had taken the ship
Their soldiers forced us to swim and flee
We watched forlornly as our ship was taken
Victory for our Majesty was not to be
Though I pleaded for my entire crew
The Admiralty wouldn’t listen to me
The hung us all as lowly cowards
Our bodies tossed unceremoniously out to sea
