| 445. We Beseech You God we beseech you to send another son The years have passed without salvation Your firstborn is said to have died for our sins Yet peace exists today in not one nation You have permitted us to hope and pray Though we can’t agree on whom we call Sometimes we turn our cheeks and take the pain But mostly we prefer to fight with one and all We don’t follow your commandments much Although we act in your name all the same When things don’t go as we want them to Because you didn’t listen we rest our blame We spend great wealth to get your attention Our churches and temples are created for you We worship for your love and forgiveness And make sacrifices of the animals we slew We’ve come a long way since the days of old No longer do we crucify great men Then again if someone said he was your son No doubt we’d kill him just because we can |
