| 446. Flames Flames burnt brightly against the horizon Orange tongues licking at the black sky The heat warmed the winter night The houses’ occupants left wondering why Crackling ambers spread their blossoms A fireman’s hose seeking to calm the same Sirens and yells broke the silence The battalion commander ordered his men by name Steam arose as water and fire greeted Both seeking to claim territory for their own The fire was contained by men and equipment Working feverishly to stop it before it had grown Carelessness caused by the need for romance Unwatched candles claimed more than a heart Two lovers singed by passion’s failing The flames of desire needing no fuel to start |
