449. The Olympics

I didn’t win or get a medal
My ranking wouldn’t make the news
But I performed as best I could
Against competitors I’d never choose
In my country I was the best
I was a hero to young and old
They helped me to train and prepare
For they hoped I would win the gold
Alas I was just another athlete
My peers were so gifted and strong
Yet I’ll always have my memories
For the Olympics I did once belong
