| 469. The Castle Do not tread so loudly he said As the troops snuck into place We have gained the element of surprise And have been favored by his grace They came with swords and shields so shiny Never tarnished by the rigors of war They preferred to win wars by trickery Having paid for entry through a secure door The castle would have never fallen For its walls were big and strong They took advantage of their stash of gold Their siege wouldn’t last too long Yet when they surged into the courtyard The hundreds claiming to take the day They found the castle empty and deserted For it seemed the enemy had slipped away Amid the confusion and cheers of victory They failed to hear the noise from where they came For from behind came the castle’s occupants Now spilling forth and screaming their king’s name And so it was that cheaters fell Their numbers decimated by another trick They never knew they were sold out for gold For with thieves a deal will never stick |
