489. Our Souls

Never will we walk this way again
For God has now forsaken us
We failed to heed His written word
Choosing to follow those we should not trust
We are filled with envy and full of greed
Seeking riches valueless outside this plain
Our deception fools only the mortal mind
Continuously reaping His painful disdain
We speak of love yet turn a tearful eye
Preferring to suffer the agony of a broken heart
Friends are strewn aside although we are lonely
Relationships discarded before they start
He held such hope for our coming of age
Accepting His son’s death before our own
Yet today He has conceded His defeat
Our souls to be forever all alone
