499. When I Awoke

Little did I know
That life was so alive
When I awoke
That winter day at five
Santa had come
There were presents everywhere
The house was happy
No worries did I care
Though hampered by fate
My life is just right
A rich man I’m not
But I sleep peacefully at night
Where are the devils
Who destroy children’s dreams
They must have been robbed
Of their happiness it seems
I pray they’ll learn
That life matters not
The passage to heaven
Cannot be bought
