503. Without A Dream

Where does one go without a dream
With no desire to strive for things to be?
How does a boat steer without a rudder
When cast adrift far out at sea?
Do roads that have no purpose
Lead to destinations that don’t exist?
Can a thought have any meaning
If its reason for being does not persist?
A mind can be a fertile vessel
If nurtured and grown with care
Why do we overlook those less fortunate
Pretending that they aren’t there
We beat our chests to profess our glory
Sports and movies are regarded so high
We turn our backs on our children
Crime is rising yet we wonder why
So stop the trend that is now growing
Give pause to see what we’ve done
All children deserve to be just children
Experiencing life and all its fun
