529. Civic Duty

Civic duty is what they call it
To sit on jury duty is what to do
No pay or parking is what you get
In exchange for a Danish or two
They say we are the peers of life
Yet those I sit near barely talk
When I look around I am afraid
The innocent have no chance to walk
Justice at its finest is so scary
For those about me control the ending
I wouldn’t trust most of them here
Nor should lawyers with people they are defending
Regardless of all I’ll still do my duty
For change cannot happen without a beginning
No doubt others see and think as I do
Belief in justice we’ll soon be winning
