558. Halloween Night

The jack-o-lanterns smiled with glee
Candles flickering inside their heads
Carved teeth cast ghastly shadows
Scaring young children in their beds
Black cats scampered to and fro
The smell of cider filled the air
Ghosts and goblins claimed the night
Only monsters dared roam out there
Sugary delights were tossed with excitement
As door bells rang alive and died
The thrill of laughter was all around
No rest awaited for those left inside
The autumn chill wasn’t the reason to shake
For this evening was frosted with fright
Only the dead really know what happens
As we celebrate another Halloween Night
