562. I Stood Alone

I stood there alone although surrounded
Thousands of voices serenading my ears
The weight of the world fell on my shoulders
No man now could have greater fears
I’d wished and dreamed for this occasion
My life eclipsed by what I would do
For a moment in time nothing else mattered
But what would happen no one really knew
My bat weighed a ton as I raised it high
As I crouched ready at home plate
The score was tied at the bottom of the ninth
A single pitch at full count now sealed my fate
And so it was that I did swing
My bat connecting with the baseball
As I had dreamed it did what I wanted
The game winning home run now over the wall
