574. Each Night

I would have failed if not for her
No medal would ever adorn her chest
She urged me forward with her silent words
Counseling me to always do my very best
Her gentle touch would calm my fears
A simple smile could make the pain go away
She endured and accepted me at my worst
Reminding me to love as I passed each day
Though sometimes forgotten by my importance
No forgiveness did she ever seek to get
She judged me not though I did wrong
Yet didn’t criticize me on goals I never met
No greater sacrifice could she have done
For from her being I first saw light
Although now separated by the heavens
I thank God for her each and every night
