606. Although Not Alone

Although not alone on this Christmas Day
My thoughts find no comfort by the fire
The hand I hold gives no pleasure today
When being with you is my only desire
Separated by both miles and dreams
Your memory warms me like no other
I smile and laugh but it’s for show
No enjoyment possible in the arms of another
For each toast made today I simply nod
My spirit consumed by your last kiss
Words swirl about my ears without meaning
It is of your voice that I now truly miss
Since I arose this day is but a blur
Like a child I looked beneath the tree
I had wished you’d be waiting there
But such answered prayers were not to be
So I’ll pass this jolly occasion alone inside
My body simply going through the motions
One half of a life destined to be together
Unable to show the world our true emotions
