7. Fashion of Life

Slender legs guiding across the stage
Designer clothes draped across curves and chests

Flashing lights and music pounding in rhythmic beat
Today's latest exhibits of dresses, hats, and vests

The beautiful people all gathered in regal splendor
Amid gasps of excitement and cries of dismay

People's careers rising and falling on cuts of cloth
As so much colored raiment discarded as spoils of the day

But once the music stops and the lights glare no more
The masters of facades fade into their own creations

Only silicon, peroxide, tape, and replaceable hair remain
The reminders of hopes and dreams and surrealistic relations

But millions will beg and borrow and steal to be seen
In fashions created by those that they have no love for

To pretend to be someone else can create a special dream
For them there are only promises of life and the hope for something more
