80. Grocery Shopping

I went to the store for shopping
To get some milk and a vegetable or two

When I glanced across the aisle
And filled my vision with the beauty of you

You caught my eye and smiled so sweet
Your cart was filled with boxes and cans

I was smitten and smiled right back
To find a way to talk to you I quickly developed plans

You turned away and disappeared
Into the produce displays and fruit

I pretended to head in a different direction
But quickly turned and followed in pursuit

Through the rows I did give chase
My clanking basket fast at your heels

You appeared almost oblivious
Snatching and grabbing at such great deals

From ice cream to meats and to breads
You toured me through the store

I loaded up on a million things
Surely I would never need to shop anymore

I tried to speak a dozen times
But I never quite had a chance

Two persons pushing grocery carts
Some awkward rendition of a mating dance

When at last my chance did come
You approached a checkout line to quit

I virtually sprinted to a place behind you
A man, a woman and child, and a display I almost hit

You placed your stuff so caringly
Upon the moving check out belt

When you finished you looked at me
I surely thought I would fade and melt

My mouth was about to give you praise
When I watched another male approach

You turned so quickly and clasped his hand
It was only then I saw the broach

You kissed as lovers only can
And snuggled by his side

It was then that I realized
That I could never have you for a bride

You finished up fast and walked away
Never knowing of my stalking

It only cost me $800 in groceries
That’s what I get for not talking
