94. My Companion

When I gazed upon your eyes
I saw the hurt and sorrow

If I could buy you anything
I'd insure you had tomorrow

We spent a lifetime as friends
Racing both to and fro

From beaches, forests, and desert lands
There wasn't anywhere we wouldn't go

You've been my trusted companion
A savior for all these many years

You've seen me at my bad and best
And comforted me through my worst fears

There are those who'll never understand
The love that we both now share

But if they had experienced your spirit now
Who among them would not care

So my pet, my colleague, my cherished buddy
One last walk together we'll take

Know that I shall always love you
A better dog God could never make
